Default How to train a dog?

We are wanting to get another dog and we have the fears of the dog running off when at a campsite. Are there any tricks to keeping the dog around. I have had dogs slip out of the door and just start running. We had a Minpin once and that was her hobby.

We travel with a dog. Years ago we traveled with 3 greyhounds. We now have one Whippet.

The only way to be sure to keep a dog from wandering off is to use a leash or an X-Pen. Before we even opened the door we had the leash on the dog and in our hand.

When outside we set up an X-Pen, which is basically a portable fenced area about 10 feet in diameter which can fold flat for storage. They even have a gate that opens.

Our dogs have never been off a leash when we are camping. Not only is it usually required by the RV Park but I feel it is common courtesy to not allow our pet to intrude on other people. It is also much safer for the animal.

We are also attending an obedience class for our pooch so both he and us will be better behaved.

gasbag that is great! I would do the same thing and attend a obedience course with my next animal. Are those x pens easily stored?

Yes they are. We have two of them as they can be connected together to make a larger pen.
The package they fold into is about 2 feet by 3 feet by about 5 inches thick. That is just a guess as they are folded up stored away right now. They have a carrying handle that makes them easy to move around. We stored them in our basement area in our old Bounder and now store them on our sliding tray in the basement of our present coach. They will also easily fit into any car trunk.
